Aquaponic cultivation consists of using fish to provide natural aqueous nutrients to plants in place of soil nutrients or fertilizers. Plants are grown in media beds or net pots and edible fish are often part of the harvest. At 360 FARMS, we use our aquaponic greenhouse for elderberry plant propagation, herbs for our tea blends, and vegetables. The system remains productive year round with the use of solar heating.
Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust assisting development of sustainable community food systems. They have used aquaponics as part of their food production efforts for nearly 20 years.
The Aquaponic Gardening Community is a forum and host to personal blogs for aquaponic gardeners. This is a great resource for exchanging ideas and the member map can help you find local aquaponic gardeners.
